Salsify

A few years  ago, a friend gave me a couple of Salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius)plants. Beware of  introducing it to your garden- it has now seeded  itself all around  my garden! The  flowers open in the morning  and close at lunchtime, and are  closely related to the  plant with yellow flowers called "Jack- go- to- bed -at- noon" (Tragopogon pratensis).
Apparently, you  can eat Salsify roots but I guess that is when  they are young, before  the  plant flowers.
This afternoon a long online assessment  meeting  to see  if my Mum is eligible  for Continuing  Health Care. Unsurprisingly she isn't, as  the bar is set very high,  but at least she  qualifies for Funded Nursing Care.
