Wyangala

Wyangala dam is about 40 km from Cowra, on the junction of the Lachlan and Abercrombie Rivers. It was opened in 1935 to support irrigation and the development of agriculture in the area. It can hold twice as much water as Sydney Harbour, the measure Australians often apply to large bodies of water. The dam is used for all sorts of water sports, but there was no sign of them today and the water was absolutely still.

To get to the dam we drove through some beautiful country. The extra shows the kind of boulder strewn country that often offered concealment to highway men like Ben Hall who operated in the gold mining country.
