Tomato Flower

No one grows tomato plants for their flowers, but as today I’ve transplanted our five young plants into big terracotta pots, this flower has to be my blip image. Two of the plants I bought from a nursery and are still small, but will hopefully grow strongly now they are in good compost. Three were grown from seed by J’s sister and have shot up in height since she gave them to us three weeks ago.

The tomato was cultivated by the Aztecs and was brought to Europe from Mexico by the Spanish. It’s now a central part of many countries national cuisine. One way or another tomatoes have featured in our diet every day of this week so far.
