A view from Jeanneb

Moo!

Not what I was expecting to see when we crossed the bridge at the Fishermans Inn to walk along the Leeds/Liverpool to Saltaire this morning.

Geese a plenty, Greylags on the water and either side of the path with their broods, both sets quite well grown but it didn’t stop the adults hissing as we passed. But all eyes were on this cow that had come down the bank from the field for a drink and a paddle!

We watched awhile and then another came down a different bank into the water. As we decided to move on we could hear someone calling the cows in the field above and they all started moving on to the next field, but not these ones, in fact another had arrived - extra.  I was going to mention it to whoever was calling the cows but someone stood by the wall over the next bridge said they do it quite often.

Continued along the canal to Saltaire, coffee at the Half Moon Cafe and then a return walk along the River Aire. Lots of lush green now, most of the early spring flowers gone. The wild meadow below the housing estate has grasses at head height. A great idea for this expanse of grass between the houses and the river with just one patch cut in the middle for the kids to play football.

Back on the last stretch of the canal where we started there were no geese, just their droppings, they had moved to the field, and no cows in either the fields or the water. Thankfully no floating bovine bodies either!

A good walk as usual though the sun has only just decided to arrive and is still patchy!

For some crazy reason I decided to clean the oven after lunch, glad the sun decided to wait.
