Lavender and Daisies

It’s been a perfect summer’s day, and the garden is looking at its absolute best. The semi circle of Lavender ‘Hidcote’ at the end of the path is now in flower, and the wildflower patch behind it is a froth of ox-eye daisies which practically sparkle when the sun’s rays shine through their snowy white petals.

Apart from the many rose bushes (of course!), there are some hollyhocks coming along nicely in places, and a few delphiniums, but not many foxgloves, I’m sorry to say. Nevertheless my cottage garden is giving me enormous pleasure, especially as Smithers loves it as much as I do. His father was a keen, hands-on gardener but Smithers has adopted a different approach. He has decided that his role is to give lots of positive encouragement and appreciation to Mrs. Smithers while she’s tending the garden, while providing copious cups of tea and also the occasional home made scone. Actually, I think it’s quite a good arrangement!
