Thermal Springs, Furnas

A non-riding day, instead a tour of the east of the island and specifically Furnas, another large crater of a long extinct volcano.  In this area thermal activity is still visible, with hot springs in various locations.  I haven’t seen similar since a visit to Yellowstone National Park.

We spent the morning in the Terra Nostra gardens, complete with a thermal heated pool.  Lunch was courtesy of our guide, cooked underground using the hot springs that dot the area (see extra).

Our evening was meeting new guests now that L’s riding partners of the last week had wend their way home,
