Sgwarnog: In the Field

Creepy

Anyone in search of creepy places in the woods need look no further than this long abandoned structure deep in Buck Wood. It lies near the end of one of the spurs of the form Esholt sewage works railway.

A foray into the woods was my entertainment in between two football matches; July 1st offering the first pre-season friendlies for 2023-24. The newly reunified Bury FC brought both their women’s and men’s teams over to play Thackley, who are managed by Tom Greaves, one of their former players.

Thackley Ladies secured a 2-0 win over their higher ranked visitors but in the men’s game it was the visitors who secured a 3-0 win. Bury’s first home game back at Gigg Lane will be a friendly against Bradford City next weekend, but the prospect of a return to league football is a long way off, being five promotions away.

After the game is was back into the woods for my walk home down into the valley and back up the other side.
