a lifetime burning

I spotted the marsh warblers sitting at the edge of the reeds, and realised that I was looking at Mum with two of her fledglings.  If I was lucky I might get to see Mum feed the youngsters - but it wasn't to be, on this occasion.

Although I kept very still Mum was clearly in no mood to to trust me and popped back into the reeds where she could still see me but was further away and less visible.  The two fledglings remained where they were, until Mum's calling eventually encouraged them to join her.

The youngsters weren't sitting close enough for it to be worth trying to get them both in shot, so I've settled for this portrait of one of them.
