Currituck Beach Lighthouse

This is our last day at the NC beach house. My son has asked us to join them for years but we didn’t want to over crowd them. So glad we finally said yes. I think we both contributed to daily needs of the family; my son would not hear of us helping with the lodging costs. We enjoyed “Duck Donuts” for breakfast. They were scrumptious. Hubby and I decided to do a bit of sightseeing. We visited the subject lighthouse. “It was built in 1875 and was the last major brick lighthouse to be illuminated in the Outer Banks… It is constructed of 1,000,000 bricks and rises 162 feet from the ground. It was electrified in 1933 and the light was automated in 1937.” We decided not to climb the 220 steps! We shopped for a few gifts and somehow found exactly what we wanted. We always treat ourselves to a Christmas ornament to remember our adventure. I found one to give Jamie and Renee for the same purpose. We came back to the house and after lunch, I accepted Isla duty. Lauren and Abby were working from home. We have really enjoyed being with these kids this week. Even though we live in the same town, we can go weeks without seeing some of them; all of us are always busy with life. We are going to try to use up some of the leftovers for dinner and then pack up everything but breakfast stuff. We are having a thunderstorm with rain now. It has been breezy and overcast all day. Our goal is to leave by 7:00. It took 1.5 hours to get here once we got to the Outer Banks; leaving could take even longer. And we anticipate back up at the two major bridges/tunnel. Thanks for your visit. Sure hope you enjoyed learning/seeing a bit of this area in my journal. Be safe. “A good book is a lighthouse; a wise man is a lighthouse; conscience is a lighthouse; compassion is a lighthouse; science is a lighthouse! They all show us the true path! Keep them in your life to remain safe in the rocky and dark waters of life!” – Mehmet Murat Ildan
