Water, Water, Everywhere

Abby and the boys decided to go home last night. They are late sleepers and our plan was to get up very early to beat the heavy traffic leaving all the North Carolina and Virginia Beaches. They got home at 1:46 am! The rest of us were out of bed by 5:00 am and on the road by 6:45. Each family had a ton of stuff to load in the vehicles. Luckily, the home owners have a cleaning and linen service. We left everything tidy otherwise. For the most part, we beat most of the traffic. Hubby and I got stuck behind an accident right before the tunnel. Jamie and Renee were home by noon and Lauren’s family arrived by 2:00. Hubby and I prefer the country roads when possible. There were times when we had the road almost to ourselves. We went a different way home than we went down on. It was actually 20 miles shorter than the Interstate route. I decided to collect and share photos of the different rivers we saw. It was quite overcast so there are no stunning shots. The piece of bridge superstructure is about all that is left of the Potomac River Bridge between Southern Maryland and Virginia. The tunnel connects the Hampton Roads part of Virginia. It looks worn out. Maybe that is why they are building new bridges on each side of it. There were plenty of soy bean and corn fields on our route. We stopped to check the golf cart straps a few times, grabbed lunch at a Chinese restaurant we used to visit when we both worked in Dahlgren, and bought and delivered a box of spaghetti noodles to Mackenzie. She is dog sitting. We dropped off the golf cart at Jamie’s and pulled into our driveway close to 3:00. Chase helped us unload the car and hubby took him home while I unpacked the food and washed a load of whites. We sure made some wonderful memories this week. Wishing you a vacation just as pleasant. Thanks so much for all the stars, hearts and nice comments lately. They are much appreciated. Stay safe. “A river doesn’t just carry water, it carries life.” – Amit Kalantri
