a lifetime burning

Clinging on in quiet desperation

It was hard to spot the common darter, hiding amongst the iris leaves, and even harder to get a decent angle on her.  The close proximity of the other leaves meant that I had two views of her between the other leaves.  I could either choose to get her wings in focus or I could choose to see her eyes but the rest of her would be out of focus.

In the end I've gone for this shot, simply because her wings are in such good condition.  I think she emerged earlier on this afternoon as there was still some liquid dripping from her tail when I first spotted her.
