In the shade

S was back for the weekend today, so we decided to celebrate by going to La Bonbonne, one of our summer favourites, for lunch. The garden is a lovely place to be on a hot day and as expected it was busy. The menu doesn't change much, if at all, but it has lots of things we like, so it's not a problem. We shared this simple and copious salad of lettuce, onions, roasted red peppers, whipped goat's cheese and walnuts and then shared a stuffed half aubergine and some patatas bravas. We misjudged it again, so we had to skip dessert.

There is a pretty concrete pond in one corner of the garden with plants, fish, and a tinkling fountain. Added drama when an unattended child of three or so became over-interested in the fish, leaned over the edge, and tipped silently head first into the water. A guy at the table next to the pond was on the case right away, and her mother arrived at warp speed from the far end of the garden, so plus de peur que de mal as they say. She was quickly plonked right side up on the ground and her screams rapidly placated -- within minutes she was laughing at her adventure and was bustled off for a quick change of clothes.
