Woman Made

It is difficult to express the joy, exuberance, confidence, and competence shown by this family. They visited the garden, gathered green beans and zucchini and along with whatever they mined from the fridge (thank goodness I had spent quite some time cleaning it out in the morning) whipped up the most delicious meal we've had in a long time! Unlike John, who is constantly asking me where things are, they found their way around my kitchen like pros!

Will  came, and we got the music going with my bizarre playlist ranging from k.d. Lang to Ladysmith Black Mombazo and Queen. Chloe joined us after going to see Barbie with her mother. Dinner conversation ranged from climate change to Chloe's horse and the Barbie movie to Mira and Lola's formative years in Goa, Jesuit universities and Catholicism. Lola topped off our meal with brownies and strawberries.

Ruta brought a copy of her latest cookbook, 6 Spices 60 Dishes, a follow up to her first book 5 Spices 50 Dishes which she wrote in response to the comments of students in her cooking classes who said Indian cooking was too complex and time consuming for one or two to do alone. I'm putting a picture of it in extras....I highly recommend it.

It is hard to describe the magic that this family brings with them. It was hours past our bedtime by the time they left, having even done the dishes over my protests, but we went to bed smiling. Even the dogs were well behaved! These are truly special people and very special friends. They are a tonic!

The Doc pronounced Spike to be progressing nicely and everyone admired his new eyes and his good behavior. He really does sit quietly while she pokes things in his eyes and looks at them through her special handheld equipment. He is finished with the oral prednisone and antibiotics and needs only prednisone drops four times a day and an antibiotic ointment twice a day until his next recheck in a month, so the pharmacy is much less busy and the flow chart is no longer needed. The tiniest tubes and bottles of medication cost a hefty price as do the post op recheck visits, so financially it is good to see the treatment drawing to an end as well. But the Doc was right. We're not sorry we did it and she said he isn't in pain anymore....

I went to Pilates today and managed all the balancing exercises without falling off the table, and met Maggie for lunch at Zoftig, a casual restaurant specializing in bowls...soups, curries and salads. David came by, picked up the legs from our new table, cut about two inches off them and brought them back before heading out with his wife to see Oppenheimer.
