If you can't beat them...

Wild Arum Berries ( Arum maculatum )

Not really a "walk to the bins blip" as they are growing in full view close beside our garden in our neighbour's garden.  Strangely I never noticed the flowers in spring, yet now the berries are red they stand out, and can't be missed.

When we were kids we knew this a Cuckoo Pint, however, it seems to have many common names, Lords and Ladies, Adam and Eve being two of the common ones.  The berries are extremely poisonous to mammals, including humans.  Birds are immune to the poison and feed on the berries.  It would seem that in some parts of the world Arum are eaten after various complicated cooking and preparation processes.
