The Lozarithm Lens

Marlborough (Wednesday 16th August 2023)

Having had to go to Marlborough to get a quote for insurance purposes I had a wander through the Waterfront Gardens and Coopers Meadow, where some rare breed sheep were grazing. This purple loosestrife was growing in the River Kennet beside the meadow.

Thanks to Miranda1008 for WildFlower Week.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
John Martyn - Small hours (recorded 9 January 1978, Maida Vale Studio 4, for John Peel)
The original version of this was on the album One World (1977) and had been recorded outdoors in the early hours by a lake, with the sound of geese audible in the background, as well as a passing train, with a hypnotic atmosphere. This recreation for Radio One consists purely of John Martyn and his Echoplex-treated guitar in a small studio but somehow manages to evoke a similar feeling. I recorded it off the radio when it was broadcast on 16 January and have since copied the treasured cassette tape onto minidisc, but I recently bought the track on CD on the album John Martyn In Session, which collects all his BBC session broadcasts between 1973 and 1978, and I played it through on this day (it isn't quite complete because the liner notes say that this entire session was devoted to this one lengthy track, but my minidisc includes a near seven-minute version of Big Muff from the same session).
