The Lozarithm Lens

Avebury (Thursday 17th August 2023)

I could go on about the admissions procedure at the National Trust (including the need for both a window sticker and a ticket from the machine to be displayed at one's car just because they stupidly doled out double the needed amount of stickers in the members' handbook, inviting trouble), with particular reference to Avebury Manor, but I won't because it might seem to reflect on the generally pleasant staff, many of whom volunteer, instead of the real culprit fat-cats who exist at a far higher level. Suffice it to say that I think this ugly gargoyle-like carving on a poolside urn probably represents the man at the top.

I had a wander round Avebury Manor Gardens mostly photographing the plants in the gardens and reading and enjoying a picnic lunch, but as I blip enough flowers I have taken the opportunity to present something else.

However, some roses and distant hollyhocks feature in the Extra taken on the High Street. The roses are in the front garden of a thatched cottage (roof out of frame).

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Bridget St John - Yep (1970)
The Mojo that I was reading in the Gardens included a piece about the singer-songwriter Bridget St John, who I often used to see live in the sixties/seventies, sometimes sharing a bill with Kevin Ayers. This atypical piece of baroque pop was written by him and Daevid Allen, perhaps during very early Soft Machine days, arranged by him and David Bedford, and produced by him. It was a non-album single, on the B-side of If You've Got Money, but this was the side I played, perfect apart from fading out prematurely. She will be touring here in London and Manchester in October.
