Smithy Garden

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.
Carl Jung
Another damp start to the day, with showers forecast so another day philosophising in the house, with occasional forays into the garden to admire the profusion of butterflies.
The last few days I’ve been mulling over the Jung/Shaman/Religion connection. Yesterday I looked up the potted version of Jungian philosophy online, and the view was that his main contribution seems to have been the concept of the Collective Unconscious (seems a bit limited to me but ok). Taken with everything else this seems no different to the ideas of The Field (Lynne McTaggart), the Otherworld (Annwn), or the Spirit World – just different names for it because of the baggage associated with the various cultural concepts of it. They all seem to be ‘Mythologies’ (stories) to explain ‘technologies’ which are beyond contemporary understanding.
