There were two adult robins with four juveniles still with their speckled breasts.  One parent was looking fairly spruce but this one was looking the worse for wear.  There may be a number of factors involved such as loss of condition after raising a family, start of a moult, or disease.  I generally associate this loss of feathers, particularly around the head, with an infestation of feather-mites.
