Cute and fluffy overload

We went to the pub yesterday for a gin and tonic each that together cost more than a bottle of Gordon’s.

There was a birthday party taking up the whole deck, so we had to sit away from the river.

There were children (unrelated to the party) being loud around us. We decided that a couple of hours in Ely before the trains terminated early (the industrial dispute rumbles ever onwards) would be cheaper and quieter.

It was.

The Albert was holding a beer festival in their beer garden, but we decided it was too late to join in because of the trains. If we’d known before, we could’ve gone sooner. Oh well. We only popped in on the way to the West End House anyway.

We didn’t make the penultimate train home at just before five – to be fair, only Mr Pandammonium was aiming for that one :) – but we got there in time for the last one at 6:28.

The board said the train would arrive at platform 3b; platform 3 is the furtherest-away-from-the-entrance platform, and platform 3b is the furtherest away from the steps that get you to platform 3.

We hustled to platform 3b; when we stopped, an announcement announced that the train was going to platform 1, the furtherest-away platform from platform 3b. We hustled to platform 1.

We went back to the pub where the party and the children had gone, and had cheaper drinks, once they’d changed the gas, and sat next to the river. Much better.

Mr Pandammonium got it into his head that ‘All About You’ by McFly wasn’t originally by McFly and that it featured in Love Actually. I looked the song up; the internet was adamant it was originally by McFly, and I was sure it was a different song that the American girl Joanna didn’t quite sing to the boy from About a Boy, although I couldn’t think what that song was because I had ‘All About You’ stuck in my head.

When we got home, Mr Perkins was (still) outside, waiting for us. We’d ‘abandoned’ him again. Poor boy.

We made up for it by sitting on the sofa with him while we watched Love Actually to see what the song was. It was Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas’; there wasn’t a single McFly song in the whole film.

Mr Perkins was happy today: we did nothing that involved going outside.

I asked ChatGPT what film McFly’s ‘All About You’ was in. It gave me a film, so I found it on Amazon Prime, and we watched it: Just My Luck starring Lindsay Logan and Chris Pine. It also heavily featured McFly. If this film didn’t have the song in, nothing would.

We watched it and watched it and watched it; the song wasn’t in it. The film ended, and the credits rolled. Still no ‘All About You’ – until the second song of the credits.

The credits said there was an album by McFly called Just My Luck; I looked it up, and the infamous song was on it.

Mr Pandammonium is begrudgingly close to believing that McFly did ‘All About You’.

I’ve been hankering after another crumble, so I bought some cooking apples and some blackberries (or brambles, as Mr Pandammonium insists on calling them) in this week’s weekly shop. I didn’t precook the apples before I put the crumble in the oven, so it’s a treat to look forward to tomorrow instead.
