Frustration

We cooked scrambled eggs, mushrooms and toast for our overnight visitor this morning, followed by coffee, after which he went on his merry way.  After some procrastination on our part, we decided a visit to the Resource Recovery Centre was required as we were overloaded with cardboard, soft plastic, paper, bottles and rubbish.  It was quite a relief to clear the space it was taking up downstairs, and the staff at the centre are extremely helpful and friendly.  On our way home we picked up a couple of items from Mitre10 that MrMacD needed so he could install an extractor fan in the laundry where an unsightly length of plastic piping had been used to extract air from a clothes dryer.

After lunch MrMacD started the installation but found he needed a small length of ducting to join the inside and outside parts of the extractor.  Meanwhile I had given the bedside tables a fine sanding and they were ready for waxing.  We opened the tin of wax only to find it was black and couldn’t possibly be the Rustic Pine we thought.  We decided to try a tiny amount from the lid on the inside of one of the cabinets and it was much darker than we wanted.  We spent some time trying to find the receipt to no avail, so decided we’d walk to Mitre10 and see if they could help.  The staff there were amazing.  They brought out three other tins of wax, opened them all to compare with our tin and the lady from the paint department decided it was either very old or mis-labelled. Someone else looked on their computer system, found our receipt, printed it out, I scanned it for our records and we were given a credit.  We purchased some Danish Oil and the ducting that MrMacD needed and handed over $1.60 in cash.  Problem solved!  We walked back through the Oamaru Public Gardens, which were very peaceful in the early evening.

Whilst we were at the Resource Recovery Centre I took three photos for today’s blip.  Not only are the staff helpful and knowledgeable, they are also very creative.
