Islands in a much larger sea

This was the only photo I took today, of the merest little slip of a European Garden Spider, Araneus diadematus, who turned up from nowhere and decided my monstera is sufficiently gardenaceous to set up home.  I am not sure how many flies it will catch, though.

I had a terrible night, involving downpours, smashed windows, shouting, birds in the attic, post- (or pre-)headaches, complete knackeredness – and bad dreams, which may have accounted for three or four of the above; I really wasn't all there today.
