Horned treehopper

Today's blip is a Horned treehopper, such odd but also sweet little insects.
These little beauties are related to cicadas and leafhoppers. They are characterised by their enlarged and ornate pronotum (the bit down the back) which often resembles thorns and is thought to aid camouflage.
There are about 3,200 species of treehoppers worldwide, they are found on all continents except Antarctica, but interestingly only 3 are found in europe.
Their lineage is at least 40 million years old.
This little soul hopped onto my fleece which is where I snapped him!
Enjoy
