Autumn flowers

How could I resist a Nerine!

This morning was the first really autumnal one we’ve had here, very misty and quite chilly. Chris and I walked down Bailbrook Lane to Batheaston, we didn’t walk through the fields as I’m sure it would have been wet under foot. The cloud was lifting all the time and after our coffee and brunch ( yes at Gather again) we came out to warm sunshine.
The village has a partly walled public garden which used to belong to Batheaston House, I’ve been before when Jude came to Forest School here one time. In the centre is a 200 yr old Mulberry Tree but the main attraction for me was a border of these lovely pink Nerines or Jersey lilies, some, like here, mixed amongst vibrant blue Salvias.

We’ve talked before about the riverside path so today we decided to return by it. Alongside the River Avon we soon passed Batheaston House with a still substantial garden that runs almost down to the riverside - extra one.

There were lots of great gardens but some were hidden away behind high fences and with doors and gates. I did spot another autumn favourite over one fence, tiny wild cyclamen - extra 2

We continued on to the Toll Bridge to Bathampton, passing under it and then past the weirs at Bathampton Mill. The path left the river then but continued to Lambridge through archery and rugby fields as well as passing under the A46.
We keep extending our local knowledge for future use.

No lunch required so it was a bit of time to chill before collecting Eda from school. It was very hot sitting in the garden.
Soon Jude arrived back early from nursery as daddy and his friends are off on an extended camping weekend on the Gower peninsula, a belated 40th birthday treat. Hope the weather stays kind to them.

We are in charge for most of the weekend as there are three more performances of Oliver to come. Last night was really good, the best I’ve seen I think. Fagin and the children, especially Dodger, were terrific and great fun.  Grace was in several scenes and to me her voice stood about from the others. Think she’s really enjoyed doing a show without the pressure of being the lead and taking care of her voice.

Couldn’t believe how balmy and warm it was when we came out of the theatre last night. Quite a funny season but the flowers at this time are lovely.

Happy weekend everyone.
