Now, as I see it......

Delayed in transit

It's now just after 2pm Dutch time and we should by now have been in Berlin but instead, we will be sitting in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam for the next four hours or so.  We had an early flight here from Norwich and an hour to make our connection but two things went against us.  Firstly, someone was taken ill on the plane into Norwich which apparently delayed it while they called for an ambulance to meet the plane.  Secondly, what appeared to be an entire platoon of the Dutch army checked onto the plane with so much luggage each that it took them an age to load it and the plane was so heavy they had to take on extra fuel.

We were allocated an onward flight at 6.50pm but I managed to check us onto one at 4.45pm.  However, by the time we came to check in at the transfer desk there was only one seat available and one of us would have had to go on standby.  In the end we decided to opt for the later flight to make sure we could fly together.

Having not really considered Norwich airport for serious travel we booked this following a chance conversation with another couple in a local restaurant who said that after a short hop to Schiphol you could fly to virtually anywhere you wanted.  They were right, but I think next time I'll make sure we have a longer time to change flights.  In the meantime, we've just used our compensatory food vouchers to buy a large beer and a large glass of wine.
