Red Winged Blackbird

The red winged blackbird is common all accross North America. The males get all the coolness, as usual! They're glossy black, & they have scarlet & yellow "shoulder patches" they can puff up (like when flying or singing or showing off) or hide, if they aren't feeling confident! They call all day long, & like to be noticed!! They also like best to be near water--esp. marshlands or lakes. The poor female is a rather plain brown, who tends to get overlooked next to the male!
