Wild Geranium

This wild geranium is another of the woodland perenial plants native to eastern North America. It's also known as Alum Root, Alum Bloom & Old Maid's Nightcap! Although the plant grows wild, many people also plant these in their gardens as they pretty much grow themselves! It's been used in herbal medicine as an astringent--it causes constriction of the tissues & stops bleeding. The Mesquakie Indians brewed a root tea as a treatment for toothaches & painful nerves....thank goodness I don't suffer from either of these ailments, as I don't think I'd want to try the cure! :)
