Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Another Oscar

The  Lake Union shipyard/drydock in our neighborhood is this State’s 2nd largest, built in 1919, just after the ship canal and locks were built to join Lake Washington and Lake Union to Puget sound. The largest is in Bremerton, a naval shipyard that can take aircraft carriers.  As you probably know, we like walking by to see what’s being serviced.    In April I blipped  the NOAA ship, Oscar Elton Sette  based in Hawaii, (with a Fionna as Commanding Officer)   Altho it’s hard to get a good view where she is,. today we see the NOAA ship Oscar Dyson, based in Kodiak, Alaska and named after a pioneer in Alaska’s fishing Industry.  ( AND…her commanding Officer is an Emily!)
…..which makes me want to mention the very interesting non fiction book I just read of an Icelandic fisherwoman Captain Thuridur who lived from 1777 to 1863. They rowed those fishing boats.    (extra)

If truth be told,  the most exciting part  of the day was having the cleaners here to clean the condo…..:-)  it’s been a long time…..
