Pond Gossip

Amazing things happening in the local pond. A pair of Pelicans have moved into the Swan territory.

This morning I noticed the swans out in the middle of the pond and one of the Pelicans at the street edge of the water so I rushed down there with Jake in tow.

The Pelican saw us coming and took off like a small speedboat, she is definitely a very powerful swimmer. One of the Swans headed down towards thePelican too and I thought there might have been going to be a confrontation, but the Swan got halfway there and stopped. Managed to snap a couple of shots and this is probably the best of a bad bunch as she was too far away and there was a lot of shade.

Tonight I left work 10 minutes early and headed for the pond without dear Jake to see if there were any new developments! There was a little boy and his dad throwing bread to the Swans and a group of small ducks. Took a lot of shots but because the birds were constantly moving hardly any were usable!

Off to the far side one of the Pelicans was in a tree and the other was in the water and they stayed well away from the bread throwing area!

I thought that was odd but maybe it's because they're the newcomers and don't feel comfortable enough yet to get involved!
