Farewell

Lovely to chat over tea in the morning with RL and K, then once RL had left for her conference we sorted out the various tickets for exhibitions for K to go and see (Beyond little black dress then Grayson Perry) whilst I was once again in Glasgow.
Beautiful crisp sunny day again…may be the last day I just wear my leather jacket though as it’s definitely chilly now. I need to remember where my coats are!
Three meetings in a row when I arrived which was a lot…but at least there was lunch! Wide ranging discussions from large scale finances to positioning of lightning conductors and spreading damp but we got through it all, then into a celebration of life/memorial event for my predecessor. So beautifully done…all three of his children spoke beautifully - so tough for them - and there were some gorgeous musical contributions and a lovely Burns poem (below). It was all a bit of a tearjerker, but very appropriate for him. As LK said, ‘He loved life, and he particularly loved HIS life’.
Chatted to some people afterwards then dashed for the train and caught up with K and RL when I got home, comparing notes from our day. They’d enjoyed the conference and exhibitions and we talked about the various things they’d seen.
When A arrived we went round to Soi 38 for Thai food and after the usual hesitation about what to have we chose a mix of things and shared it all…delicious! Really enjoyed it all and chatted non stop all the way through before A went home and we came back to slump a bit and half watch programme about DNA tracing then Gogglebox, whilst chatting on throughout. Lovely to have them here.

Epitaph on my own friend

An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
