Last day in Yorkshire today. We got up quite early and packed our things, then drove out to Fountain's Abbey for a walk. I love the architecture. We didn't have time to see the hissing geese or Last-of-the-Mohicans-style deer this time, so we turned back before we reached the lake and picked Dad up to go into Harrogate for lunch. We went back to Baltzersen's and had gravlax on rye bread and bought gulrotkaker (carrot cake) to eat on the train home to Aberdeen.

Dad drove us into York, and we arrived in perfect time. The train was packed but we had good seats and we'd packed a nice picnic. We played åtte twist, a Norwegian card game that our Norwegian teacher taught us to help us learn numbers, and I read trashy magazines. We arrived at the back of 9pm, and M's Dad kindly picked us up from the station and offered us a cup of tea at the house before we headed home. We both had the loveliest break in Yorkshire; I wish we could have stayed longer!
