BCAM Day 14

On the agenda for today was a drive up to the highest point in the UAE, Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah.

The drive out was very pleasant. I noticed sooooo much development even in the desert between the states. Unreal. The ascent up to the mountain was so gradual you could hardly feel the strain on the car.

As we entered the mountain range, it reminded me of being at the Grand Canyon, which we saw from the top. This was more like driving through it. And the rock/mountain formations were just fascinating. A geologists delight for sure.

We drove to the furthest bit that we could get to without access to the absolute top, as we hadn’t booked for the zip line or toboggan. We did stop to see if we could catch any daredevils who would whoosh past on the world’s longest zip line up there and thankfully we saw quite a few. I’m sure Jon and Ben would love to do that. It’s a zip line where you are horizontally suspended with the harness on your back.

We then had a break for some refreshments and photos, in extras, before heading down towards the East Coast to Khor Fakkan.

Another drive through “built up” desert, where I got to actually drive part of the journey to give Sherry a break. Felt good to drive on the “right” side of the road again.

Our stop for lunch was at a Lebanese restaurant that Sherry and Geraldine discovered last week, which they absolutely loved and were determined to bring me to, yes! And it did not disappoint. Excellent food and excellent service as well. We had plenty of leftovers to bring home for dinner, yay.

Back on the road and a drive past this dam, Al Rafisah Dam. It was quite lovely. If it wasn’t so hot, I might have suggested taking a boat out on it, but not a chance. Appreciating the aircon very much :-).

Lovely day out in the other states of the UAE. It was lovely to see how the UAE are developing these areas so tourists can enjoy more of the nature of this part of the world. Apparently Bear Grylls has a nature adventure camp here!

Oh, and Martin wrote and let me know that there was a resounding NO vote to The Voice Referendum today!
