A Book Drunkard...

... I am! And so is my friend Mary..and my friend Sandy... so we bought tickets for tonight to go to one of the Book Drunkard Literary Festival events to see Donna Morrissey, a Canadian author from Newfoundland. Her most recent book Rage The Night is described as:

"The intimate tale of one man's quest to discover the truth of his birth set against a real-life Newfoundland tragedy from 1914, brilliantly and sensitively imagined by one of Canada's most beloved story tellers."

Mary, of course, had already read the book, so with that description on top of Mary's recommendation, how could we resist?

It was held in a small town north of here in an independent book store - yes they still exist if you really look for them - and in keeping with the Newfoundland theme, the evening started off as a "kitchen party" with lively fiddle music, lots of toe-tapping, hand clapping, drinks and snacks...and then on to the author talk.

Donna was interviewed by another prolific author who was as entertaining as she was. They were both funny, casual, and down to earth. I don't remember laughing as much at any other book talk I have been to!  It was all very much in the spirit of a Newfoundland get-together!

The book was included in the price, but there was still an opportunity to shop for other books afterward..heh heh..Mary of course was at the head of the line!

A really fun night - a good send-off for Mary as she is flying home tomorrow morning..with a few new books to read in flight!
