Changeover

Good sleep, and woke to another beautiful day. May well be our last given there’s a storm on its way. After K had packed we set off to Portobello and parked at the Joppa end then walked both ways. The tide was out and we walked down by the water’s edge, marvelling at the complete lack of wind and even the lack of waves…it was almost silent, which is probably why we noticed the gulls doing little dances in the shallows, stamping repeatedly on the sand. Assume this brought shellfish to the surface for them to eat and they seemed to be successful, munching down little crabs and razor clams. The black headed gulls were less successful than the herring gulls who squabbled and shouted when they didn’t get their own way.
We crunched on lots of razor clam (‘spoot’) shells as we walked, and chatted about K bringing Lola up here next year to visit the festival, kids anxieties, half term break next week, book groups etc etc.
Stopped at Miro’s for a tasty smoked salmon brunch (although it was very cold inside the cafe), then back to the car. We drove via the ‘guerilla mushroom farm’ to collect the oyster mushroom growing kit that I’d bought for A&N then popped home to hang up washing and have a cup of tea then I dropped K at the station. Popped into M&S for a brown top then came home and did some phone calls about P and wrote myself a To Do list.
Chatted to A on her way home then made some leftovers supper and started watching a couple of things but gave up as they were both too tense and I wasn’t up for that. Bake Off wasn’t on because of football…irritating!
