Over the sea to Mull

A gusty day today, but so far dry. The wind's coming from the landward side this time, so we're getting it worse that the town below - the sea seems pretty calm too. The NE of Scotland seems to be having it a great deal worse - houses being evacuated ahead of severe flooding.

Getting on with more photographs - a never-ending job, but one that I enjoy. It's so easy these days to identify buildings and locations and to investigate their history - I can hardly imagine what it must have been like pre-internet; I suppose it would be a question of visiting the library and hoping to find something useful!

After lunch we decided to go out for some fresh air - plenty of that around! In the end we chickened out of a walk down-town and settled for a walk up to McCaig's Tower, less than ten minutes away. My Blip today is the view that must be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors who plod up here from the town every year.

I was extremely annoyed to see that the information board fixed to the railing has been ruined by vandals. It's some three feet or so in length and based on a photograph, but was erected on the wrong section of railing so that visitors would peer at the view and wonder where the various mountains and castles were! A friend and I came down one evening with a spanner and moved it so that the directions were correct. Now someone has wrecked it by scratching names into it and picking off a piece of the paint - my extra today shows the worst part of it.

McCaig's Tower 'garden' is such a mess too. At times like this I really wonder whether there's any point in trying to persevere with 'Keep Oban Beautiful'!  I remember somebody commenting some years ago that we should change the name to 'Make Oban Beautiful'! They could be right!
