Spöm in Skirvi Geo

A wild more of gales and rain.  By noon it dropped to flat calm, and rain eased off.  A beautiful sunset, then calm and clear tonight.

Up early,  a morning around the house.  Finally got out walkies before lunch, Sammy was desperate.  Headed down to mam's in the afternoon, we popped by Laura's too.  I saw a huge long-eared owl, some gold crests, mam saw waxwings just after I left.  Working in the shop this evening, a steady to quiet shift.  Walkies with Sammy, then feet up.

Storm Babet has finally blown herself out.  Even though the winds calmed, the sea certainly hasn't.  Some massive waves still rolling in, and bringing spöm (spume) with them.  Another old Shetland name used would be löragub, or even froad (froth).  The rain washed most of the spöm away this morning, mam had it blowing on her windows last night, and you can see the grubby grey marks on the grass where it has been lying.  I've seen various folk on social media splashing around in it on the UK mainland, personally I stay clear, it's usually stinky, oily, messy sea waste.  It does look inviting from a distance, even looks like a bubble bath.  The last of the spöm, Skirvi Geo, Anness, Cunningsburgh.
