Austerlitz

Napoleon's famous victory was fought quite close to Brno. He took the city without a fight and then, easily outnumbered, beat the joint Russian and Austrian forces by appearing to be weaker than he was.

The area of this plaque is now French territory. The plaque is a facsimile made from steel to replace the copper one which was rescued, already cut into pieces, from an Austrian scrap yard.

The rain had a penetrating quality, so our meal in a nearby brewery was most welcome.
