Away with the fairies!

The fairy garden's open
to visitors each day.
It's a lovely place to walk round and
a happy place to play.

It makes a day out for the chessmen:
they wander round for hours.
"It's very sweet," one queen declares,
"but where are all the flowers?"

"There are big ones on the seesaw,"
the other queen agrees,
"but not one flower's real --
and where are all the trees?"

Both queens feel uncomfortable.
"Those fairies are immense!
If we were playing chess with them,
I think I'd feel quite tense."

"It's never going to happen,"
says a pawn who overhears.
"There are no fairy bishops --
it would only end in tears!"

"No fairy rooks! No fairy pawns!"
The chessmen can't stop laughing.
"There'd be no game of chess at all,
just lots of fairy-faffing!"

At last it's time for them to leave.
The chessmen set off home.
"Good riddance!" say the fairies,
adding, "Chessmen shouldn't roam!"

This is my chessmen's 51st adventure! Click on the tag below if you'd like to see more. Thanks to 60Plus for hosting this first-of-the-month's Silly Saturday challenge, in fond memory of admirer.

The photo was taken before the rain arrived, when I was happy to see our new visitor returned.
