Off with the head!

This poor old birch tree was finally put out of its misery today. The construction of the new pavement didn't do it any favours a few years ago and neither did some rather soul-less pruning but meanwhile, inaction did allow a few blue-tits to nest and their chicks to fledge. The space looks a bit empty which is compounded by the notable absence of the polled maples which lined the street before the new pavement. Interestingly, the contract between the future coalition partners in government will sanctify 20% of Poland's forests and preserve them from logging. The last few years have overseen the unprecedented felling of huge areas. Lets hope that the next few years will compensate for the loss somehow.
