Armistice Day

I was at the Garden of Remembrance on Princes Street in Edinburgh today.

On the main road there were people milling about, chatting, eating, on their phones.

But the buses seemed to stop if they could for the 2 minutes silence and those in or around the railings of the garden stood in silence.

Afterwards people were free to walk around looking at and placing crosses by regiment in memory of individuals or of those from the regiment.

There were many there formally dressed and wearing their medals.  Several times I saw people informally dressed and of all ages and nationalities walk up to a memorial, straighten their backs, arch their shoulders back and give a salute worthy of any parade ground.  Then their bodies would relax back into civilian mode.

On the other side of the Scott Monument was the poppy tree which has appeared for another year.  See extra.
