Giant planters

In to Huddersfield with MrM late morning, to the bank, yet again. Thankfully it didn't take long this time, and afterwards we popped in to the Turntable cafe for coffee and cake.

We walked back to the van past the three 12-m high planters being installed on New Street at a cost of £25,000, as part of a £250M regeneration plan for the town. Apparently the street will become a garden street with green areas with seating and artwork designed for socialising, and the giant planters will have climbing plants growing up them.

The council has defended the project as being essential for the area's future economic health; allegedly it will mean more people spending money in shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.
However, it seems to be something of a controversial development at a time when Kirklees Council have confirmed it needs to save £47m this financial year, putting jobs at risk...

Somewhat distracted today, as I received a worrying message first thing from L, who spent much of yesterday at St Thomas's hospital. Slightly reassured after a lengthy phone call with her the evening. She assures me that she's fine; fingers crossed that she really  is.
