Between fen and mountains

Health and safety

It was my turn to take the service today. There were only eight of us and most of those were the bell ringers. Two of our ringing friends who have a second home here are over from the UK for a couple of weeks. We decided to walk up to the next village and have lunch together. I had an onion and seafood tart with salad for a starter followed by a spiced beef stew. For dessert, I had a local speciality, Bras de Vénus (the arm of Venus) with a sweet chestnut filling. It is really a sort of glorified Swiss roll. On the way back, we walked past the dodgems. The platform is supported on a mixture of oil drums, bits of wood and modified gas canisters. I don’t think it would pass health and safety in the UK!
