a lifetime burning

At a distance

I spent a very cold few hours this afternoon in some glorious light, waiting for a bird, any bird, to get close enough for me to take its picture.  It was most frustrating as I saw a merlin and a pair of peregrines, but none got close enough to me.

This shot shows the two peregrines which were stooping on a third (unidentified) bird of prey.  I couldn't be clear what the third bird was from this angle but it clearly seems to have some prey in its claws that it wasn't prepared to release for the peregrines.  If only they'd been closer!
