Bye for now

Today, my last meeting for a while with all the members of our small feminist group. We met for coffee and talk first, then went out onto the square for our weekly vigil. It's a public holiday today (Día de la Constitución, commemorating the day in 1978 when the constitution was approved by referendum). It was chilly and overcast, all shops were closed, and the square was deserted. But it's something we do every week, so we did it anyway. The list of names has reached 99 now, so it seems pretty certain it will be in three figures by the end of the year. And, surprise! Two passing women joined us, and a man came up to engage us in conversation at the end of the minute's silence (sadly he turned out to be a bit machista and was swiftly cut down to size by confident Mexican A).

Afterwards I stayed for a quick drink with guiri and F, before heading home for lunch, cleaning, and packing. The weather has been dire for the last couple of days, grey and drizzly -- at least it makes it easier to leave. Our planned farewell drink this evening with a few friends from the intercambio fell through because no-one wanted to venture out in such grim weather.  We had no food in the house, so we did anyway -- a pizza in the Italian restaurant on the seafront that we like -- and in fact we were spared the rain. Home at a reasonable hour ready for an early start tomorrow. ¡ Buenas noches !
