Westminster snow

We were on a train that left Portsmouth Harbour at about 2:25pm with a bit of a convoluted route - and a bus replacement from Haslemere to Guildford - which got us home about 5:20pm. A very short turn around to be on a train before 6pm heading to The Crazy Coqs for ‘Christmas at The Musicals”.

Mark was ill and so wasn’t hosting. Instead the performers stood-in and introduced the songs. It wasn’t quite the same but, as always, the performances were brilliant. Quite early, one of my favourites, “I believe in Father Christmas” was done and that really got me into the festive mood. “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” and “Chestnuts Roasting ...” were among the other classics. A rendition of “Fairy Tale of New York” was one of the big songs that got everybody singing.

Always a lovely evening. But, when we left, we walked straight out into our own winter wonderland. It had started snowing while we were inside and central London had a lovely layer of snow. It’s great that it happened in the evening because we got to see it before it froze or had been removed by people going about their business.  We walked to Parliament Square - where Churchill was covered in a layer of snow - and tried to look at Big Ben through the snow flurries.   It felt very festive.

On the way back, we stopped at the Southbank Centre, by the little hut that usually sells coffee, to pick up a wine - not mulled - and decided to try sitting outside watching the snow fall and the people passing. I think this might be the start of that Christmas feeling.  Home just after 10pm
