The Light Bringers

The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol ("sun") and sistere ("to stand still"), because at the solstices, the Sun's declination appears to "stand still"; that is, the seasonal movement of the Sun's daily path (as seen from Earth) pauses at a northern or southern limit before reversing direction. - Wikipedia.  In this lovely book by Welsh artist and needle felter, Karin Celestine, the story is told of how all the animals gather up the small sparks of light as the days grow shorter in autumn and hide them safely underground until the Hare calls for them to slowly bring back the light.  This is my needle felted Hare readying the light for its return.  Karin has a delightful website, Celestine and the Hare, where you can get this book.  She has a whole series featuring her lovely wee animals.  Check it out!  Gift#353: the Solstice pause.
