Quod oculus meus videt

Departure Port: Barbados

We arrived into Bridgetown, Barbados this morning, our final destination, though we still have one more night on the ship. From the decks we could see the Kensington Oval cricket ground, along with two beaches on either side of the port area.

After our swim in St Lucia we were keen to get to a beach again. We set off thinking it wasn’t far, but despite the beach being in sight, it was still a good mile or so away. Add to that it started to rain and our footwear was soon rubbing our feet. Bridgetown was run down and dilapidated, except for the bank buildings that gleamed in the intermittent sunlight.

Once we reached the beach we had a lovely time, swimming in the sea. Not quite as warm as St Lucia, it was still an experience rarely enjoyed in the Mediterranean. We walked along the beach before heading back. Unfortunately we got caught in a rain storm so took refuge in the local public fish market. It’s rare to see a full tuna being boned and jointed; such a muscular fish.

No further update on our suitcases, we hope the bags are heading back to the UK and Manchester.
