White-faced Heron …..

….. ….. ….. in the Ashley River estuary, Waikuku.
Its Māori name is Matuku moana.

The estuary is a wonderful area for bird life. I’ve seen many different birds since we’ve been here. I was very lucky to see those 4 spoonbills yesterday as they just arrived while I was there, feeding in that small tidal stream, and then taking off again. Of all the photos I’ve taken this year that might be the one I was most excited about.
