Guinness Trust Building (1900)

A quiet morning. Toast for breakfast; more leftovers for lunch. PY brought the bins in (thankfully, all the bottles were collected) after the revised collection.  Later, a walk around south London.

As we were walking around Southwark we walked past the Guinness Trust sign. it’s quite an impressive couple of buildings.  On the train in the way home I checked out the history,

In 1890, philanthropist Sir Edward Cecil Guinness, the great grandson of the founder of the Guinness Brewery, gave £200,000 to set up The Guinness Trust in London ...  He wanted to help improve the lives of ordinary people, many of whom couldn’t afford decent homes.  // source

We finished walking the backstreets of Southwark just by Tower Bridge so we walked back along the Thames. There was a Christmas market still running along the Thames from near the old City Hall (looking quite sad in its mothballed state) and Hays Galleria. It was very busy - which was nice to see even if it made progress slow.  We stopped for a coffee in Costa, which was very slow service, but we eventually sat with a drink looking at the shopping crowds.  We finished up walking as far as the London eye - to check out the tourist buses doing London Christmas lights tours - and then back to Waterloo and home.
