Hiking at Rowe Woods

Tuesday
We got a late start again this morning - this dismal weather doesn’t exactly entice one to get out of bed! R was out running an errand this morning, but in the afternoon we got out hiking at Rowe Woods. You can perhaps see in the top two photos the sun was trying to break through the cloud, and we did see our shadows for about 30 seconds, but that was about as far as it got! As for wildlife, we saw the group of mallards in my collage on one pond, then quite a number of Canada Geese on the larger pond. We stopped by the bird hide overlooking some feeders they have set up, but unfortunately most of the feeders were empty, so there weren’t any birds! We also surprised a white tailed deer, who scampered off quickly through the woods. The trail we were on today is called Red wing, and in the past has been notorious for being very muddy, especially in the winter and early Spring, but they’ve been doing a lot of work on it recently, including putting in three stretches of boardwalk in the muddiest spots, one of which you can see in the lower left photo. I’m not saying it was totally mud free, but it was minimal, and I even came back with no mud on the bottom of my jeans!
