Common Rock-rose

Despite the weather thinking it was October this afternoon, I was surveying plants on one of the wonderful south-facing chalk grassland slopes in the Dancersend valley. The flowers are really stunning at the moment - Small Scabious, Clustered Bellflower, Horseshoe Vetch, Common Rock-rose - and a few butterflies were on the wing. Then the sky darkened and the rain started. I walked back through one of the reserve woods getting increasingly wet and passed a clump of Bluebells with a few stems still in flower - spring and summer merging - unprecedented!
